UIC is a private Catholic educational institution managed by the Religious Virgin Mary in Davao City, Davao del Sur, Philippines. The university started in 1905 as Escuela Catolica de San Pedro.

The University of the Immaculate Conception is a Catholic School that is an instrumentality of the Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary that aims to provide within its community of students and personnel Catholic values. Its goal is to provide an educational program and environment animated by Catholic doctrine, beliefs, teachings, traditions, and practices, the exercise of which is protected by, among others, Article III, Section 5 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

that impacts transformation in a fast-changing society.

Mission

We commit ourselves to:

  1. provide an excellent educational experience to students to help them become globally competitive and adaptive to change;
  2. inculcate among students the values of serving others with humility and love, working for justice, promoting peace, and preserving the integrity of creation;
  3. engage in research activities in collaboration with local, regional, national and international partners;
  4. uphold the dignity of the persons especially the poor;

After arriving in Davao for the first time, I was informed by Mr. Rene Barbiera that UIC is divided into three campuses. The first campus is used for university/college level education. The second campus, Bonifacio, is used for both high school and college education. The last campus is Bajada, which is used for playgroup, elementary school, junior high school, and senior high school levels.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Based on my observation, there are several academic support facilities that I have found in the subjects I teach, such as:

Gymnasium: A facility that supports physical education and sports activities. It provides space and equipment for students to engage in physical activities, promoting their overall well-being and potentially enhancing their academic performance.

Classrooms: These are dedicated spaces for teaching and learning. They are equipped with furniture, whiteboards, and other instructional materials to facilitate effective teaching and learning experiences.

Air conditioner: This facility helps maintain a comfortable learning environment by regulating the temperature and ensuring proper ventilation in the classrooms or other academic spaces.

LED TV/Projector: These multimedia tools are used to display visual content, such as educational videos, presentations, or interactive learning materials, to enhance the learning experience and engage students.

Speaker: A sound system or speaker system can be used to amplify the teacher's voice or play audio materials during lessons, ensuring clear communication and effective delivery of instructional content.

Comfy room/Toilet: These facilities provide a comfortable and hygienic environment for students, allowing them to take breaks or attend to personal needs during their academic activities.

Changing rooms: These rooms provide a private space for students to change clothes, which can be especially useful for physical education classes or extracurricular activities.

Other facilities that support academic activities include:

Library: A resource center that offers a wide range of books, references, and digital resources to support research, reading, and independent learning.

OLP Auditorium: An auditorium or large hall that can accommodate a significant number of people. It is often used for academic events, presentations, or performances.

Cafeteria: A dining area where students can have meals or snacks, providing them with the necessary nutrition and energy to support their academic activities.

Laboratory: A specialized facility equipped with scientific instruments and equipment for conducting experiments and practical learning in subjects like science, chemistry, or biology.

WiFi: A wireless internet connection that allows students to access online resources, conduct research, and collaborate on academic projects.

Prayer room: A designated space for students to engage in religious or spiritual practices, providing them with a peaceful environment for reflection and prayer.

 TEACHING METHOD The teaching method that I used during my teaching practice in 11th grade was problem-based learning. When presenting a topic, I always gave an example of a problem that they had to solve, such as "how to get a healthy body." They then had to think critically and provide their own answers or opinions, and the students played an active role in the learning process. LEARNING MATERIALS The learning materials I will provide consist of three parts. The first part is about FITT (Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type) which focuses on designing effective exercise programs. The second part is about health-related to fitness, which covers topics such as nutrition, hydration, and proper rest to support overall fitness. The third part is about fitness in the community, which explores the importance of physical activity in promoting a healthy lifestyle within a community setting.  PURPOSES OF PRACTICUM The purpose of the SEA Teacher program, specifically the teaching practicum, in my opinion and experience, is to create opportunities for future teachers to teach in another country and learn from the institutions where we teach. We also receive significant experience and the opportunity to improve our teaching or pedagogical skills. PROCEDURE OF PRACTICUM This sea teacher program will last one month, and the practicum procedure is divided into several stages, the first of which is the observation stage, the second of which is the teaching stage while it is still adapting, the third of which is the normal teaching stage, and the last of which is the evaluation stage. During the observation stage, I began to pay attention to how my tutor taught as well as the different types of students in the class. Then, in the second stage, namely the teaching stage, I had to begin adapting to teaching situations that were different from those in my home country. After a wh...
